A Look Back

Since we've been slacking...here is a quick rundown of some of our events that we have not mentioned here until now:

+ACD/SHD retreat

+Paula Dean in the Kitchen: The Schol Hall staff cooked a fabulous dinner for the rest of the campus staffs. Here are the fun pictures from the event!

+Towards the end of training, there was a dress up event at dinner. Luis went as Duff from Ace of Cakes!

+There was also a huge dance party outside Crawford...I was sick and couldn't make it, but thanks to Luis' love of picture taking, I can now relive the event through these photos!

+Once the RAs/Desk Staff/Proctors/Food Board Managers moved in, the exec members for the Skol Halls soon followed. We went with the Wild Watkins Women to create tiles to help decorate the hall. Luis made the T and I made an A! It was a lot of fun! I think we will have to travel back there to make some more goodies sometime!

+Then move in snuck up on us! In Schol Hall land there is something that happens at the beginning of the year, the Scholarship Hall Olympics! Each hall competes in a variety of events, everything from baking to watermelon eating and basketball to ultimate frisbee. It was great experience and Luis and I took every moment we could to cheer on the lady llamas and bfeld aardvarks!

+During the opening week, there were two rockin' dances. Rock a Hawk and the fountain dance were really fun! Luis showed off his dance moves and we got to hang out with awesome people!

We have more pics to share...so check back soon for a new update!!

Katie

Traditions Night

Katie and I are running a bit behind schedule trying to update our blog as much as we can. Ideally, we would like to have a daily post, but you know, it's hard! We really don't know how people on the Web can be so dedicated and have enough time to do this! I guess they don't have jobs or something.

Anyway! We decided to update you all on Traditions Night which was held on Monday night August 18 at Memorial Stadium. It was the first event for new Jayhawks to learn the traditions of the student body. But, something... no wait... someone caught my attention more than that guy-->.

Little known fact about me is that I LOVE MASCOTS. I mean I am absolutely fascinated by the lovable furry things.
Illinois had the Chief, but he wasn't really a "mascot" per se (some will disagree). High school, well that didn't really count for either of us. So naturally, I am glad that KU has Big Jay and Baby Jay. So much so that I decided to take more pictures of them than any other event during Traditions Night!

Some other stuff happened too, but I was way too distracted!

Louie's First Day of School

Today was the first day of class here at KU. Louie was sooo excited! He loved his new book bag! We tried to take a picture of ourselves, but I cut Jay out! Luis got angry, so I tried again! Right after he left, someone else decided to join me! Check back for more adventures!

Katie

KU Tour 08: Booth Family Hall of Athletics

Katie and I have finally been able to sit down and map out a whirlwind tour of the KU campus. Albeit, Katie's had more free time than me; she's been a great resource finding out some stops along the city of Lawrence.

I, however, like to say I know a bit more about getting around campus, but in married life, the wife always wins.

Anyway, once in a while here on this blog, we'll update you on our adventures around campus. Tonight's installment is our trip to the Booth Family Hall of Athletics.

Katie and I decided that we would get season football tickets. I was ecstatic considering the beast roaming the sideline. So, we went to the Allen Fieldhouse box office which is conveniently located next to the Hall of Athletics.

It was Katie's first time (my third).

I got a chance last night to live my dream as you can tell by the picture on the left. So, Katie naturally got to have her pic with one of the originals.

The hall has a plethora of memorabilia. If you are ever at KU, it's definitely worth a look. I'm not going to bore you with a history of the hall, but you can look here for more info.

There are plenty of trophy cases on display. The most recent additions are the Orange Bowl trophy and the NCAA basketball championship trophy--a team led by the devil incarnate.

I was very excited to be able to catch an impromptu basketball game. Katie couldn't get me good seats.

Surprisingly, we still don't really know what Rock Chalk means, but it is grounds for a mean photo op.

Katie caught up with some old friends--in particular the answer to one of her dad's high school PE basketball exam questions. The answer is to her right and mine as well.

The story of sport is not complete without Katie. And, it was A-OK with me!

Our last stop was naturally the gift shop. Which made Katie mad and me sick.

It was a great day!

Getting Ready

It's funny how you find things to do when you find yourself with nothing to do. Katie seems to have mastered that by creating this blog, which by the way has been one of the better ideas that she's come up with in a long, long time!

Katie and I are in Lawrence, now. We've been running non-stop for a little over 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks, we've organized our new place, but at the same time had to deal each with an old friend (me first, then Katie's now just recovering fully).

KU is an amazing campus. I've been partial to Illinois since I was 6, but really this is growing on me pretty quickly. He, however, is not.

Periodically, I will be updating this. Unfortunately, that time's limited at this point with my new residents moving in on Sunday. I will give you more of an idea of what we've gotten ourselves into when I've settled into a routine. Nothing bad, but I know that there will be adventures ahead of us.

Thanks for reading!!!

Luis

Home Sweet Home

We have only been here for two weeks...and while I'm still going through job interviews, I have a lot of down time, so I've only redecorated a few times. :) I have posted some pictures of our humble abode. Here is the link to the rest!

Enjoy!
